Bosch benchmark dishwasher vs ascenta12/29/2023 ![]() ![]() And all of the dishwashers allow some amount of upper rack adjustment.Īs you’ll see below, the main differences between the dishwashers are the nice-to-have features-quieter overall performance, better drying technology, roomier and more adjustable racks-and aesthetics, like the dishwashers’ exterior finishes, handle styles, and displays. Dishwashers in Bosch’s two entry-level tiers have stainless steel walls and ceilings with a plastic base, while the dishwashers in all tiers above those have fully stainless steel tubs. Plastic is more susceptible to stains and wear than stainless steel, but a plastic tub can make a dishwasher more affordable. ![]() You also won’t find a Bosch dishwasher with a fully plastic interior. ![]() All of Bosch’s dishwashers have what’s called PrecisionWash, which allows sensors to scan and check dishes throughout the cycle to make sure they’re getting clean. But first, we can establish what all Bosch dishwashers have in common: They carry the Energy Star certification, which means they meet certain standards of water and energy efficiency that can save up to 3,800 gallons of water over their lifetime and save you up to $35 a year on your electricity bill. That’s exactly what can make choosing a Bosch dishwasher so daunting: How do you choose the right one for you?īosch’s dishwashers are organized into six tiers, which differ in the features they offer and, accordingly, their prices. Bosch is one of the leading brands for dishwashers, with more than 50 models and machines that perform exceptionally well when it comes to cleaning dishes and reliability, among other factors. ![]()

Symptoms of deep vein thrombosis in leg12/29/2023 ![]() ![]() The top risk factors contributing to the three criteria include: Unwanted blood clots form when one or more of the following three things happen: Your blood flow slows down, something makes your blood clot more easily than normal, or you suffer damage to the veins. When the clot develops in a vein deep in your leg, it causes DVT. An unwanted blood clot is called a thrombosis. Unfortunately, blood clots can form when they shouldn’t, and sometimes they fail to dissolve. When the bleeding risk is over, your body naturally dissolves the blood clot. Risk factors for deep vein thrombosisĪny time a blood vessel is damaged, specialized cells go to the area and stop the bleeding by forming a gel-like clot. In the meantime, here’s the information you need to know about your risk for DVT and how you can recognize its symptoms. If you have questions about your symptoms, we’re here to help, so don’t hesitate to call. The only way to know you need treatment is to learn the five signs. We know how important it is to seek prompt treatment for DVT. And every year, 60,000 to 100,000 of them die from a DVT complication called pulmonary embolism.Īt Memphis Vein Center, board-certified cardiologist Kishore Arcot, MD, has years of experience diagnosing and treating DVT, helping our patients prevent long-term complications and live a thriving, active life. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that every year, one or two of every 1,000 people have deep vein (venous) thrombosis (DVT). ![]()

Recipe for scaffolding12/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Asking students to repeat a task helps strengthen the memory. Repeating – just because a student can demonstrate they learned a concept once, doesn’t mean that learning is strong.Giving alternatives – when children are first learning a language, they struggle with finding the right words, so the teacher can say the words aloud and the child can repeat. ![]() Graphic organizers – after students have encountered a lot of complex information, a teacher can use a graphic organizer to visually display the material and let students see how the different concepts are related. As the students’ math skills develop, the manipulative scaffolds are removed so students can do the tasks unaided. Manipulatives – In math classes, students are provided with manipulatives (such as wooden blocks) to practice.Visual aids – A type of supportive resource is a visual aid, which can be put on the wall so students can look to the aids to be kept on track or receive tips.Providing supportive resources – before discussing an issue, the teacher provides a handout with facts that students can use at the end of the discussion the students engage in a reflection activity.Guided practice – A version of gradual release of responsibility where learning transitions from teacher-centered to student-centered as the student’s abilities progress.Gradual release of responsibility – A strategy where the teacher starts by modelling, then doing the tasks with the students, then allowing the students to do the task on their own.Probing questions – a teacher can use the Socratic method to ask students a series of questions that will help them find the answer for themselves.Modelling – a kindergarten teacher demonstrates to her students that when she gets stuck counting, she stops and starts over again.Providing hints – if a student is struggling to find the answer or know what the next step is, the teacher can provide some hints to give them a nudge in the right direction.Bruner was a famous psychologist that developed several respected theories in educational psychology ( such as the spiral curriculum) and impacted the careers of famous scholars, including Dr. “ a process that enables a child or novice to solve a task or achieve a goal that would be beyond his unassisted efforts” (Wood et al., 1976, p. However, the term “scaffolding” was first used by Dr. The concept of scaffolding builds upon Vygotsky’s concept of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and is considered a tool within the sociocultural theory of education. Elbow humerus fracture12/29/2023 ![]() Five patients randomized to ORIF were converted to TER intraoperatively because of extensive comminution and inability to obtain sufficient stability to allow early ROM. They reported that TER resulted in more predictable and improved 2-year functional outcomes compared with ORIF and may result in decreased reoperation rates (12% in TER group vs. conducted a prospective, randomized, controlled trial to compare functional outcomes, complications, and reoperation rates in elderly patients with displaced intra-articular distal humeral fractures treated with ORIF or primary semi-constrained TER. The mean MEPS was 90.5 points, with three patients scoring <75 points. The mean VAS for pain was 0.6, the mean flexion was 123º, and mean loss of extension was 24º. reported 44 TER in treatment of distal humerus fracture patients were followed for a minimum of 10 years. The mean MEPS was 94.3 points, and mean follow-up was 24.9 months. reported seven elderly Asian patients with distal humerus fractures treated with TER and achieved six excellent results and one good result in patients with low physical demands. The complication rate was 9.5% without any revision surgery. reported 21 patients receiving TER for distal humerus fractures with a mean follow-up of 3.2 years, mean MEPS of 84, Q-DASH score of 32.4, mean flexion of 125º, and mean loss of extension of 22º. They reported good or excellent results in 95% of patients at a mean follow-up of 3.3 years, with a reoperation rate of 5%. In 1997, Cobb and Morrey first reported a series of 21 elderly patients who underwent primary TER for comminuted distal humerus fractures. Several studies have reported short- to long-term outcomes and complication rate after TER for complex distal humerus fractures. Radiolucency was graded as type 0 if the radiolucent line was less than 1 mm wide and involved less than 50% of the interface, type 1 if the radiolucent line was at least 1 mm wide and involved less than 50% of the interface, type 2 if the radiolucent line was more than 1 mm wide and involved more than 50% of the interface, type 3 if the radiolucent line was more than 2 mm wide and surrounded the entire interface, and type 4 if there was gross loosening. Implant loosening was graded on anteroposterior and lateral radiographs according to the classification described by Morrey et al. Bushing wear was assessed via anteroposterior radiograph at the final follow-up evaluation and was classified into three grades (normal, mild to moderate, extensive) as described by Ramsey et al. The cementing technique was evaluated on immediate postoperative radiographs for both components and was classified into three types (adequate, marginal, inadequate) as described by Morrey. Serial plain radiographs were performed for all patients to evaluate fixation status, bushing wear, and implant loosening. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) score for pain Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS) the Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (Quick-DASH) score and active range of motion (ROM) of the elbow joint. The mean follow-up period of patients was 29.0 months (range, 12–65 months). These difficulties have led to use of total elbow replacement (TER) as a primary treatment option for complex distal humerus fractures in elderly patients. The complications include fixation failure, nonunion, heterotopic ossification, ulnar neuropathy, and stiffness. The complication rate after ORIF for distal humerus fractures has been reported as over 35%. Successful treatment requires long-term immobilization and produces unsatisfactory clinical outcomes with complications. ![]() Complex distal humerus fractures in elderly patients may have inadequate internal fixation such that bony union is difficult. ![]() ![]() However, these fractures are often complicated by comminution, bone loss, intra-articular involvement, and poor bone quality. ![]() The gold standard for treatment of displaced distal humerus fractures is open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), along with early mobilization. Distal humerus fractures in the elderly are increasing with the aging population and are difficult to treat and challenging for orthopedic surgeons. ![]()

Maple syrup urine disease in adults12/28/2023 ![]() ![]() 1 Hemodialysis or hemofiltration should not be undertaken lightly as it can be challenging to manage changes in fluids in the body and other metabolic changes that can occur as a result. 1 Managing a metabolic crisis can involve treating the underlying stress, 4 removing leucine and other by-products from the blood using hemodialysis (a process of purifying a person’s blood when their kidneys are not working appropriately) or hemofiltration (a replacement therapy for people whose kidneys are not working properly), and giving fluids, insulin, sugars and fats through a vein. There are two main aspects to managing all types of MSUD: chronic treatment with a special diet and acute treatment of a metabolic crisis (where the stress of fasting, dehydration, and/or a serious illness triggers severe symptoms) when it occurs. The pattern and timing of symptoms are similar to intermediate MSUD. Thiamine-responsive MSUD usually does not cause symptoms in the newborn period, but appears later in infancy. This is also called “decompensation” or “metabolic crisis”, which can lead to cognitive challenges and even death. 1,4This may lead to sudden spikes in amino acid levels and severe symptoms such as muscle spasms, poor coordination, coma, brain damage, and death. 4 The disease is often not detected until the person experiences the stress of fasting, dehydration and/or severe illness (usually this occurs before 2 years of age). People with intermittent MSUD typically have normal early growth and intellectual development. This can lead to cognitive challenges and even death. People with intermediate MSUD may experience severe episodes of toxic levels of BCAA (metabolic intoxication or crisis) that can result in damage to the brain (encephalopathy) if physiological stress overwhelms the residual BCKD activity, similar to episodes experienced by people with classic MSUD. ![]() 4 While milder, it can still lead to developmental delays, seizures, and poor growth. The disease may appear in infancy or in childhood, and is usually diagnosed between 5 months and 7 years of age. 1,4 With this form of MSUD, infants have higher levels of enzyme activity than the classic form of MSUD. Intermediate MSUD is very rare, with only about 20 reported cases. 1,4Some people with classic MSUD have experienced behavior and mental health issues such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), impulsivity, anxiety, and depression, even when being treated. 4 Left untreated, it can cause developmental delay, intellectual disability, seizures, coma and death within the first months of life. Symptoms may include poor feeding, vomiting, lack of energy, irritability, unusual movements that look like “bicycling” or “fencing”, and a maple syrup (“burnt sugar”) odor that may be detected especially in the earwax and urine. 5 With insufficient enzyme activity, BCAA can accumulate to toxic level (called “metabolic intoxication”), which can damage the brain (called “encephalopathy”). 5 Affected infants have little to no enzyme activity. MSUD is sometimes subdivided into 4 types:Ĭlassic MSUD is the most severe 5 and common type, 4 with symptoms usually appearing in the first week of life in untreated infants. 4It is equally likely to affect males and females. 4 MSUD occurs in approximately 1 in 185,000 infants, but is more common in Old Order Mennonites, where it has a frequency of 1 in 380. MSUD is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, which means that both parents have one defective copy of the gene, which is passed on to the affected child. The amino acids and their by-products build up in the bodies of people with MSUD, and can result in damage to the brain and other organs. ![]() 3 These amino acids are found in protein-rich foods. MSUD is caused by mutations in the genes involved in making the BCKD complex, which breaks down the amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine (also called branched-chain amino acids, BCAA). 1 This enzyme is called the branched chain alpha ketoacid dehydrogenase (BCKD) complex. For people with MSUD, the body does not have enough of a properly working enzyme needed to break down certain amino acids (building blocks of protein). Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) is a rare genetic metabolic disorder called an inborn error of metabolism (IEM). ![]()

Mock draft12/28/2023 ![]() Well, Steelers fans, I kept my word, and I hope you enjoyed reading it more than I did writing it! In all seriousness, I love the draft, and it has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to write about it at BTSC the past couple years. Lions- Zach Rice | OT | North Carolinaģ2. If he continues to develop his raw athleticism, he has the potential to become one of the game’s top safeties.ģ1. At 6’3”, 220 pounds, Emmanwori balances his “thumper” mentality with good range and sufficient fluidity in coverage. This is the case for the Steelers, who, if unable to find a better option in 2024, will be in desperate need of help at strong safety. Thus, when a high-profile player at said position is available, he has to be considered, especially for teams in need of one. Steelers- Nick Emmanwori | S | South Carolinaįinding true strong safeties is getting harder and harder. Seahawks - Conner Weigman | QB | Texas A&MĢ6. Giants- Jeremiah Alexander | EDGE | AlabamaĢ5. Dolphins - Luther Burden | WR | MissouriĢ3. Chargers - Donovan Edwards | RB | MichiganĢ2. Broncos- Dasan McCullough | EDGE | OklahomaĢ1. Ravens- Dani Dennis-Sutton | DL | Penn Stateġ7. Packers - Benjamin Morrison | CB | Notre Dameġ5. Browns - Davison Igbinosun | CB | Ohio Stateġ4. Commanders- Nick Singleton | RB | Penn Stateġ3. Vikings- Devin Brown | QB | Ohio Stateġ1. Patriots- Deone Walker | DL | Kentuckyġ0. Falcons- Will Campbell | OT | LSU ***PROJECTED TRADE*** (Titans trade 2026 1st and 2nd round picks to Panthers)ĩ. Buccaneers - Mykel Williams | DL | GeorgiaĦ. Cardinals- Drew Allar | QB | Penn Stateĥ. If you have any questions or comments, be sure to place them in the comment section below. ![]() Expect those to be positions the Steelers look at in 2025, especially with some key veteran players coming off the books after 2024. However, until the Steelers find someone better than Keanu Neal, strong safety will continue to be a major need, while defensive line and offensive line will likely prioritized by this new-look front office. Morris, and Ole Miss’ Walker Howard.įortunately, the Steelers should not have to look that direction, assuming Kenny Pickett continues to make progress in his development. Other names include Alabama’s Ty Simpson, Texas A&M’s Conner Weigman, N.C. With an intriguing variety of weapons, Penn State’s Drew Allar is in great position to be in the conversation as well. While it’s hard to gauge how good of a draft the 2025 class will be, it’s reasonable to expect several quarterbacks toward the top.Ĭlemson QB Cade Klubnik has a great opportunity to be the top quarterback in the class, as he has shown flashes of brilliance when coming in to replace D.J. This is merely a fun exercise that I hope will wet your appetite for what is to come in future drafts. Will any of these selections actually come to fruition? Maybe one or two, but I wouldn’t expect any more than that. ![]() Well, being my last week at BTSC, I feel obligated to fulfil my promise and come through with - yes, you heard it - a 2025 mock draft! A couple months ago, I did my annual way-too-early mock draft, and I was challenged to do an exercise I once attempted, but had made an annual tradition. ![]()
